Villanueva de la Cañada is a young city, with a registered population of around 19.000. The city stands out for its urban development (horizontally and with one of the lowest housing densities per hectare in Madrid), its parks and grassy areas along with its architecturally strong social, cultural and sporting structures.
The income per capita is also one of the highest in Madrid.
Villanueva de la Cañada is home to the European Space Agency's Astronomy and Planetary Science Centre, one of the country's biggest leisure parks, Aquopolis, along with two Universities: Alfonso X el Sabio and Camilo José Cela Universities, turning it into a student town.
Twin towns include Métepec (Mexico), Madaba (Jordan), Le Vésinet (France) and Royston (U.K.).
